Warm, sturdy, smells wonderful, comes straight from cold, high mountains that warm the heart.
This sweater was hand-knitted by skilled wool artisans in a village in Kakheti using wool from ancient Tushuri mountain sheep. We sometimes have to make the same sweater several times to achieve the perfect result; the first prototype required five attempts. Each sweater takes two weeks to knit.
To withstand the Caucasian cold, especially the wind, Tushuri sheep’s wool is thick and extremely strong. The fiber is dense and breathable. The wool is washed in clear water then carded and spun using traditional methods, without chemical additives. The women entrusted with this work have, on average, 30 to 50 years of experience. Each sweater is knitted entirely by a single person, from start to finish.
Beyond the warmth of this sweater, every Georgian I’ve shown it to promises that the price of the wool’s rough texture comes with its strength—which I can attest to after wearing it for months—its durability, and also its health benefits: my friends and even their families have told me they wear similar garments with this wool around their torsos when they have fluid in their lungs (heart failure), and around their legs to treat prostate problems (with pants designed for this purpose). Overall, it’s a product that can be itchy if worn directly against your skin, but it’s reliable, extremely warm and durable, and very comfortable if you wear a thin, soft, natural layer underneath. A sweater that smells of nature, one that your cat might fall asleep on if you leave it on the sofa.
Personally, on a winter day, I wear this sweater with a layer underneath to avoid any itching; But in the evening, I enjoy wearing it directly against my skin and feeling its warmth. It’s even a sweater I’ve been wearing since March, without a layer underneath, during workouts or just for a day out, and I truly enjoy it. ASMR for the skin, but not everyone will agree.
The extremely natural nature of this wool allows for optimal thermoregulation: it’s windproof and keeps you warm, but never excessively so, unlike plastic, which explains why I also wear it in March, for example. Hand washing is recommended, in cold or lukewarm water with a mild, natural soap. The sweater will retain its qualities in the washing machine, but warm and hot temperatures are not recommended: opt for a cold water wash to avoid large temperature differences between washing and rinsing. Choose a natural, enzyme-free detergent. You can wash this sweater in clean snow, simply by gently rubbing it in cold water. Snow purifies the wool without damaging it, tightens its fibers, and preserves its warmth, softness, and durability.
Of course, it’s unisex.
Size: We prepare each garment in advance of our sales periods, using proportions designed to suit most people. However, if your figure falls outside these proportions, we will make the necessary adjustments especially for you. After you place your order, we will personally contact you to discuss your measurements and wearing preferences—close-fitting, looser, or longer—and, if you agree, a photograph will help us refine the adjustment. The sweater is thus tailored to your body and how you wear it, not the other way around. You can order with complete peace of mind, without worrying about choosing the right size: in any case, you will receive a perfectly fitted sweater, according to your preferences. If it’s a surprise gift, don’t worry, we’ll discuss it with you to maximize the chances of the recipient being happy upon receipt. You always benefit from a 60-day satisfaction guarantee after the shipping date of your order, the terms of which are listed below. For reference, I am 1.75m tall and weigh 70kg. In the photos, I am wearing a size M-L.
Perfect for starting a workout (with a soft, thin sweater or a natural long-sleeved T-shirt underneath at the beginning of your session). No zipper means you can warm up your neck and train your neck muscles by touching wool, not metal.
Warmth 10/10 (when combined with a soft, thin sweater). Even in the coldest weather, with this thick, rough sweater, I don’t feel the need for a coat or windbreaker on top, although it’s true that I’m used to the cold. I’ve never had a sweater this warm. In a single day, I don’t need to wear more than a T-shirt, a thin, soft sweater, and this sweater, even in -15°C. Personal preference: I rarely wear a T-shirt under a sweater (thin or thick).
