A nighttime atmosphere for work or with friends so soothing.
As someone who works evenings (which allows me to be outside during the day), I wanted to see these candles come to life exactly as I envisioned them. They are a warm presence, a form of life, a powerful ritual shared with our ancestors.
The incandescent light bulb was a turning point for humanity. Everyone idealizes it, yet from its invention onward, civilization, its beauty, its health, its strength, declined. From that moment, we manufactured cars at night, for example, for Henry Ford. Ultimately, even though electricity is incredible, even though it allows me to write this, man-made electricity is bad for man. Everyone senses it, but no one knows it.
Because the conclusions of this work run counter to an entire society. Brice Richaud’s research supports this view, and he himself stands on the shoulders of giants (Georges Lakhovsky, Robert O. Becker, Nikola Tesla, and others). Thus, two options are available to us today for lighting our nights: using fire, like our ancestors, or using electricity.
I know that we will continue to use electricity for a long time; I don’t foresee a near future where the majority of humanity returns to candles. But I do see a future for a segment of humanity that, consciously, at controlled, chosen moments, and even every night, illuminates itself either fully or partially with this light source, so much gentler and quieter on the eye and brain than electrical wires connected to computer chips. Our evenings with friends were transformed: where everyone would have been indescribably stressed under bright lights, suddenly, everyone reconnected with their true nature.
Candlelight is continuous over time (more continuous and reliable than a flicker-free bulb); it varies, it moves, it needs tending, it’s alive.
Now, there are two things you need to know about these candles.
1 – Decoration is nice, but above all, I want a candle that provides light, and a candle that lasts. I can’t try to bring a portion of humanity back to candlelight with tiny, ephemeral candles. That’s why each one weighs 300 grams and will provide you with more than 60 hours of light (slightly variable depending on conditions). 2 – Their simplicity serves their function. No complicated designs, no toxic fragrance (let’s leave those in public restrooms). Just Nature, which desires beauty, which rejects superficiality. This simplicity also serves their practicality: the diameter of each candle is constant relative to the diameter of the cotton wick. This ratio between the two diameters was designed to prevent the lit candle from creating a tunnel that would hinder its beauty and usefulness. To increase their practicality, we also create a wrought-iron candlestick in Georgia, which allows you to carry the candle with you around your home without having to light up the entire space.
This candle requires regular maintenance to ensure its full and lasting satisfaction.
– Rule number 1: make sure the wick is always straight. Indeed, approximately every hour, we recommend checking the wick’s straightness to prevent one side of the candle from burning more than the other end.
– Rule number 2: make sure the wick isn’t too long—otherwise, it will bend, and one side of the candle will burn faster than the other end. Therefore, when you estimate the wick is longer than 1.5 cm, we recommend carefully trimming it with scissors. Leave at least 1 cm of wick; otherwise, the flame will be diminished.
These candles are made from Georgian beeswax. The wax is completely natural, far removed from industrial hives, and the candle is entirely handcrafted. We forged our own iron mold and use olive oil as a natural release agent. Inserting the wick straight, in the center, and with precision is an art. The candle’s few surface irregularities are controlled as much as possible, and, if visible, they reflect the time spent crafting it without compromising its function, and the natural, imperfect character of its mold, which stands out from the ubiquitous use of silicone molds in this industry.
Furthermore, these candles have been blessed by the priest of the town where they are made, as is the Georgian tradition. The cotton wicks are purchased from a Georgian church.
A word about the price of these candles. It is intentionally kept as low as possible because our goal is twofold: to encourage you to return to this ritual as often as you like because it’s so beneficial, and for you to love our brand. The placement and appearance of the Loïs Kedochim logo may vary from the photographs; however, it will always remain discreet. The product itself may also vary very slightly. Variations in our products reflect their natural origin and handcrafted nature. By purchasing our products, you accept this possibility.
You can increase the quantity of candles in your order at the checkout stage. For optimal room lighting, three candles are ideal, two are sufficient, and one is still good.
